  2.         Educational Software for the Windows Environment
  3.  
  4. Introduction:  Math in a Flash is a fun, easy way for an elementary
  5.      school student or pre-schooler to learn the basic mathematical
  6.      skills.  The big difference between this program and the flash
  7.     cards bought at your local store is that the student can
  8.      practice math without your help.
  9.  
  10. Features:    . multiple choice or fill in the blank answers
  11.         . button bar on main window for easy configuration
  12.         . online help
  13.         . four predefined skill levels
  14.         . two types of timed testing
  15.         . printed score sheet
  16.         . customizable settings
  17.         . automatic save of customized settings

  19.         . sound (sound board NOT required)

  22. Requirements:  You must have an IBM-PC or compatible capable of
  23.      running Microsoft Windows 3.1.  Since Math in a Flash was
  24.      written in Visual Basic Version 3, the Visual Basic runtime
  25.      module, VBRUN300.DLL, is also required.  The VBRUN300.DLL may
  26.     downloaded from Compuserve, the Microsoft Download Service,
  27.     or from many local bulletin boards.  Instructions are as
  28.     follows:

  55. Installation procedures:
  56.  
  57.     1. Create a new directory and name it c:\MIAF (or something
  58.         else appropriate).  This can be done either at the DOS
  59.         prompt or thru the Windows File Manager (see the
  60.         appropriate user's manual for specific instructions of the
  61.         commands).
  62.     2. Copy the files MIAF.EXE, MIAF.HLP, RSND1.WAV through
  63.         RSND5.WAV, WSND1.WAV through WSND5.WAV, THANKYOU.WAV, and
  64.        README.TXT to that directory.  Copy the file TEGOSND.DLL
  65.        to the Windows directory (usually c:\windows).  Note that
  66.        the TEGOSND.DLL file is only required if you have neither
  67.        a sound card nor a PC speaker driver.  This can be done
  68.        either at the DOS prompt or thru the Windows File Manager
  69.        (see the appropriate user's manual for specific instructions
  70.        of the commands).
  71.     3. From the Program Manager of Windows, select the FILE, NEW
  72.         menu options.
  73.     4. Select Program Group and click the OK button.
  74.     5. For Description, enter Math in a Flash and click the OK
  75.         button.
  76.     6. From the Program Manager of Windows, select the FILE, NEW
  77.         menu options.
  78.     7. Select Program Item and click the OK button.
  79.     8. For Description, enter Math in a Flash.
  80.     9. For Command Line, enter the name of the directory that you
  81.         created in step 1 followed by \MIAF.EXE and click the OK
  82.         button (e.g. c:\MIAF\MIAF.EXE)
  83.     10. Ensure that you have a copy of VBRUN300.DLL in your
  84.         Windows path (Microsoft advises putting it in your System
  85.         subdirectory of the Windows directory)
  86.         
  87. Registration Benefits:  Math in a Flash is shareware, not freeware.
  88.       To make it easy to register, I have included a registration
  89.      form in the help file which can be printed and then filled
  90.     out.  Registered users will receive the following benefits:

  92.     . the latest version of Math in a Flash with all shareware
  93.        notices removed (VBRUN300.DLL included, automatic install)
  94.     . notification of future upgrades available at reduced rates
  95.        to registered users
  96.     . free technical support
  97.     . custom programming available

  99. Potential Enhancements:

  101.     . print a certificate for the student
  102.     . compare scores to measure progress
  103.     . print progress sheets

  105. If you have a feature that you would like to see in Math in a Flash,
  106. please let me know.  At the time of release, there are no known bugs
  107. in the program.  However, just because I haven't found them doesn't
  108. mean that there aren't any.  If you find any bugs, I would very much
  109. appreciate it if you let me know about them.

  111. Distribution:  Math in a Flash may be used by anyone FREE of charge,
  112.      for an initial 30 day evaluation. Additionally, it may be
  113.      distributed by Shareware companies for a reasonable fee not to
  114.      exceed $8 per diskette.  The requirement is that all of the
  115.      files in the original package be included, and not altered.
  116.       Note that the TEGOSND.DLL file may not be distributed by
  117.      itself.  If you continue to use this program after an initial
  118.      30 day evaluation period, then you are required to send a $15
  119.      payment to:
